Magdeburg Aqueduct
Opened in October 2003, the new aqueduct in Magdeburg makes Saxony-Anhalt a hub for cruise passengers.
The Mittelland Canal meanders through Saxony-Anhalt on some 60km and is linked to the Elbe-Havel Canal by an aqueduct near Magdeburg. Located some two kilometers east of the economic sluice and the Rothensee ship hoist, the 918m long aqueduct across the River Elbe makes it easy for boats and ships traveling along Mittelland Canal to access the Elbe-Havel Canal. The new aqueduct makes boat travel even more attractive among tourists from Berlin, Lower Saxony and Hamburg. Traveling further east, boats usually moor at Haldensleben. Other landing stages and a port in Genthin on the Elbe-Havel Canal are in the planning stage.
