MDR Music Summer
Concerts along the "Romanesque Road"
The “Concerts along the Romanesque Road” series start on July 8, 2005. The nine day concert cycle is organized within the MDR Music Summer taking place in different towns across Saxony-Anhalt. From July 8 to 16, 2005, ensembles and soloists, which guest in Quedlinburg, Jerichow, Havelberg, Magdeburg, Kloster Gröningen, Gernrode, Klostermansfeld, Merseburg and Naumburg, will take the the audience on a musical journey to the Middle Ages. The opening concert takes place at the St. Servatius collegiate church. The approx. 1000km long “Romanesque Road” comprises 72 cathedrals, churches, monateries, castles and palaces in Saxony-Anhalt testifying to the region’s rich medieval history. The area north of the Harz mountains, which between 950 and 1250 was of great cultural and political importance for all of Europe, boasts a great number of lovingly restored Romanesque buildings providing the perfect backdrop for outstanding musical encounters.
