Garden Dreams in the Harz Mountains
Saxony-Anhalt’s most popular tourist destination, the Harz mountains have more to offer than the Brocken, the scenic “Hexenstieg” trail, and beautiful timber-framed houses. Come experience the fragrant scent of thousands of roses!

Would you have guessed it? The world’s largest collection of roses is to be found in Saxony-Anhalt. Over 7,500 different kinds of roses – that is some 70,000 flowers – blossom at Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen, located between the Harz and Kyffhäuser. It’s hard not to succumb to the magic and beauty of this place!
Wernigerode did host Saxony-Anhalt’s 2nd Garden Show. The Garden Dreams in this colorful city boast a palace with beautiful terrace gardens, pleasure grounds, a zoo, as well as a small forest full of sweet chestnuts.

Drübeck Kloster, the former Benedictine monastery, is one of the gems along the Romanesque road. The monastery gardens and the courtyards make the past come alive – and this not only at the annual “Romantic Night”.
To the south of Halberstadt is the scenic Spiegelsberge landscape park. It was designed by Ernst Ludwig Christoph Spiegel in the 18th century and opened to the public in 1771. Worthwhile attractions include the lovingly restored hunting castle with the giant wine barrel, the Eremitage, and the Belvedere lookout tower.
Langenstein palace and parks date back to the 12th century; in the 18th century Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a frequent guest to the palace. Also worthwhile is the small castle in Blankenburg which dates from the 18th century and is a classic example for a baroque residence. The terraced castle parks boast numerous sandstone sculptures, water basins, hedgerows, and benches to sit and relax.
Also part of the Harz gardenscape are Ballenstedt park, Brühl Park Quedlinburg and Roseburg Rieder.
