Garden Dreams in Magdeburg
Since the 25th National German Garden Show in Magdeburg in 1999, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt is known for its beautiful parklands and gardens.

The Rotehorn city parks affords fantastic views of Elbe river and majestic St. Mauritius cathedral. Paul Niemeyer, the director of the City Gardens, created this lovely greenspace oasis in 1871.
The first “folk garden” in German speaking countries, the Klosterbergegarten, was designed by Peter Joseph Lenne and opened in 1825. The outstanding collection of plants of the Magdeburg factory owner Herman Gruson have been a magnet for visitors since 1895.
Herrenkrug Park on the shores of the Elbe river fascinates with its old trees. Over the years, many generations of gardeners and architects have left their traces and shaped the unique character of Magdeburg’s first tourist attraction.
Adjoining Elbauen Park was created on the occasion of the 25th National Garden Show held here in the summer of 1999. When the flowers were carted off after the show, the lovely landscaped park, a former military compound, remained.
