Bach Festival Days in Köthen
The Bach Festival Days in Köthen/Anhalt honor the life and works of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Every two years in September (next: September 2006) everything in Köthen revolves around Johann Sebastian Bach. Between 1717 and 1723 Bach worked as bandmaster of the court orchestra in Köthen and composed his world-famous Brandenburg Concerts here. Today Köthen honors this legacy with a Bach memorial and the Bach Festival Days in the palace’s wonderful mirror hall. The cultural series known as Köthener Herbst (Fall in Köthen) takes place in the years between the Bach festivals. Next date: September 18 to 20, 2009 (Fall in Köthen) or the National Bach Competition for joung pianists in October, 14 to 18, 2009.
