In Saxony-Anhalt many towns along the Romanesque Road offer its guests the opportunity to dine like the old knights did.
Spear the meat and vegetables using a dagger and slurp the soup from the bowl …. Medieval feasts are offered at the restaurant inside Rudelsburg castle in Bad Kösen in the south of Saxony-Anhalt. The castellan serves all kinds of hearty dishes – prepared according to old recipes – , makes sure everyone sticks to the knightly table manners and knights those who follow the rules of the game exceptionally well. At Wasserschloss Hotel in Dedeleben/Harz the medieval banquet is best combined with a short-break stay. The table is laid in the 800-year old Brewery and Knights Cellar of Westerburg castle. There is live entertainment including games and minnesang between courses. The next day you can relax with massages, take a dip in the swimming pool, or enjoy the luxurious sensation of a sauna bath (www.hotel-westerburg.de). Majestic Neuenburg castle in Freyburg/Unstrut has been hosting guests for over 900 years and has lost nothing of its appeal; today the chef takes you through the culinary experience, and fire-eaters, jesters and the like will keep you amused. Other establishments serving medieval culinary delights along the Romanesque Road include the “Zur Tafelrunde” in Magdeburg, the historic restaurant at Allstedt castle or – a bit off the Romanesque Road –Zecherei Sankt Nikolai in Tangermünde.
