Garden Dreams along Saale, Elster and Unstrut
Who is not enchanted by Saxony-Anhalt’s gentle South? The sun casts its golden veil on the vineyards creating a paradise on earth.
Since the 1st Saxony-Anhalt Country Show in Zeitz in 2004 the magnificent palace, the gothic cathedral, and the adjoining Rossner Park are lovingly reconstructed. Located above Saale, the Merseburg palace gardens are ideal for leisurely strolls and offer fantastic views of the palace, the Merseburg cathedral, and the beautifully reconstructed house of the estates. A true architectural gem is to be found in Bad Lauchstädt: the Goethe Theater, a venue for music performances and plays like 200 years ago. A must on every sightseeing tour are the historic spa facilities, especially the parklands recreated in French style. The English-style Dieskau castle parks – based on the more famous Wörlitz parks – were opened in 1778.
The Dryander manor house and its gardens, designed by Hermann Muthesius, were also modeled on English examples.
