Active in the Harz
In the Harz mountains you can go fishing, hiking, swimming, skiing, surfing, inline skating, cycling, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing or horseback riding, take part in archery, ice stick shooting (similar to curling), tennis or golf, paraglide, sail and snowboard.
The Harzer-Hexen-Stieg (Harz Witches’ Trail) is over 94 kilometers long and leads from Thale to Osterode through the Harz National Park and Nature Reserve up to the Brocken (highest peak). The Selketalstieg (Selke Valley Trail) connects the Selke Valley (a Viabono model region for environmentally-friendly tourism) with the UNESCO World Heritage city Quedlinburg.
The mountain bike trail network comprises 1,200 km in the Harz, including tours in the National Park. On the Harz Circular Route, the cyclist journeys 350 km around the Brocken through three federal states. It not only passes by the “colourful city” of Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains, but also the Romanesque Collegiate Church in Gernrode, Falkenstein Castle and the rose city Sangerhausen.
