Must-Sees along the Blue Ribbon
Walking along the Blue Ribbon in Saxony-Anhalt, visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to sightseeing.
Great parts of the Romanesque Road are identical with the course of the Rivers Elbe, Saale and Unstrut. On his tour back to the Middle Ages the interested visitor is offered a total of 72 ancient churches, cathedrals, monasteries, castles and palatinates. As the River Elbe winds its way past Wittenberg, Dessau and the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, it also takes in a number of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. Moreover, Saxony-Anhalt is home to numerous, century-old parks and gardens that tempt exhausted travelers to linger for a while. A must-see for music-minded visitors, however, is Halle an der Saale, the birth place of Georg Friedrich Handel. Traveling further south, boat trips and cycle tours prove to be an excellent option when it comes to exploring the wine-growing regions along the Rivers Saale and Unstrut. There is indeed a lot to learn about more than a thousand years of wine production, and you’d better not miss out on the excellent opportunity to sample the region’s finest wines and food!
