Falkenstein Castle
The House of Konradsburg built this castle on top of a rocky cliff high above the Selk valley. The fortification as well as the castle’s interior, such as the chapel, the late Gothic kitchen and the knights’ hall provide a magnificent impression of medieval life. According to legend, it was here that the ”Sachsenspiegel”, the most significant legal document of the middle ages, was translated into German by Eike von Repgow. There is a museum and a falcon-house; the castle festival in October can provide the setting for a beautiful wedding. The most important member of the ”House of Falkenstein” was Count Hoyer II, who in the first half of the 13th century supported Eike von Repgow and his work.
