Where Telemann was born.
Already his name is music. Georg Philipp Telemann was born to the son of a vicar in Magedburg in 1681. Self taught in music, he studied languages and science at the Universtiy of Leipzig where he met the young Händel who inspired him to become musician. In 1704 he took up post as court conductor in Eisenach, then as musical director in Frankfurt in Main, and last, in 1721, as musical director in Hamburg. Teleman composed 46 passions, numerous orchestra suites, church cantatas, chamber music and lieder. Today Magdeburg, his birth town, is a center for Telemann research and promotion. To honor this prolific composer, the Telemann society in Magdeburg organizes the biannual Telemann Festival featuring concerts and conferences.
