A must for all Weill fans
Kurt Weill was born on March 2, 1900 in Dessau where his father has worked as cantor of the Jewish community since 1898. At the age of 20 Weill left Dessau for Berlin where he studied music. He soon started to compose chamber music and symphonies and mainly dramas. His most well-known work is the Threepenny Opera written in collaboration with Bertolt Brecht, itself a reworking of John Gay's The Beggar's Opera. The Threepenny Opera contains Weill's most famous song, "Mack the Knife. In 1933 he escaped the Nazi regime and fled to New York where he died in 1950.
