An der BAB 2, 39365 Marienborn
Erected between 1972 and 1974, Marienborn with its staff of more than one thousand was the most important point of entry on the Inner-German Border. An observation system that extended far into the interior was installed to prevent attempts at escaping the GDR. Visitors can explore the grounds alone or take part in a tour. A documentation centre provides information about the history of this border crossing point.

"Roter Ochse" Memorial in Halle (Saale)
In the notorious former prison "Roter Ochse" (Red Ox), the political persecution of suspected and confirmed dissidents and opponents of the regime and the consequent human rights violations from two periods of dictatorship have now been made public. During research work on political justice at this site from the period 1933-1989, it became clear that from 1942-1945 the Nazis used almost the entire ground floor of the memorial building for executions. The building was later used by the Stasi, the East German secret police. The memorial is to serve as a centre of learning and research, as well as of remembrance and commemoration.
