Witches´ site - giant horseshoe - Bodetal nature reserve
Thale is located right at the entrance of the Bodetal nature reserve at the northern edge of the Harz mountains. The town is the ideal departure point for a whole variety of hikes, outings to historic sites and the "Straße der Romantik" road.
The legendary Bodetal nature reserve is a 250m-deep ravine that rates among one of the mightiest rock valleys north of the Alps.
Poets such as Fontane, Goethe and Eichendorff have drawn inspiration from walking through the picturesque gorge.
Further tourist attractions include the witches´ sight with the Harz mountain theatre (open air stage), the Walpurgis hall as well as the zoo.
