Magdeburg - PICTURES

The famous Magdeburg Rider statue dates back to 1240.

Near the cathedral, in front of the town hall is a copy the bronze Magdeburg Rider statue.

The medieval original is in the Museum of Cultural Hisotry. It is one of the oldest rider statues north of the Alps.

Baroque Burgher Houses

Only two Baroque burgher houses have been preserved after the war; they are among the few historic buildings of Magdeburg.

When Goethe visited Magdeburg in 1805, he was fond of the medieval landmarks. Today, tourists still love to visit the buildings.

Our Lady Romanesque Monastery

The Romanesque church dates back to the 11th and 12th century. In the 13th century it received Gothic arches.

Today, the monastery is a museum and its refectory, fountain house and brewery are excellent examples of Romanesque architecture. The church was renovated after WWII, and is today used as a concert hall.
